Can I use soft margarine for baking?

A. Our soft margarines can be used in all recipes where margarine or butter is specified. Since margarine has 80% oil, it contributes texture and browning properties to foods. Soft margarines are not suitable for pastry.

What are the differences between butter vs. margarine?

A. Butter is an animal fat, contains cholesterol and is also high in saturated fat. Margarine is made from a vegetable oil and does not contain cholesterol. It may contain trans-fatty acids if hydrogenated.

Why are palm oils or palm kernel oils used in the non-hydrogenated margarine?

A. Small amounts of these oils are used instead of hydrogenated oils to harden the margarine, making it spreadable at room temperature.

Is there peanut oil or peanut ingredients in the oil or margarines?

A. Canola Harvest® products do not use peanuts or peanut oil.

How long can you store the margarine, oil and spray products?

A. The margarines can be stored in a refrigerator up to six months. Sprays and oils can be stored in a dark cupboard at room temperature for up to one year.

Can I freeze the margarine?

A. Canola Harvest® margarines can be stored frozen until needed. Thaw in the fridge before use.
